Privacy Policy
LearnerLens processes personal information about children. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, where it is kept, who else can see it, and how to have it deleted.
Who is responsible for your information
Lizaan Fourie, trading as LearnerLens, of Bethlehem, Free State, South Africa, is the responsible party (POPIA) and data controller (GDPR) for the information described here. Our Information Officer is registered with the Information Regulator of South Africa under registration 2026-008937, and can be reached at info@learnerlens.co.
What we collect
From you:your name, email address and contact number, and the observations you choose to share about your child's learning.
About your child: a preferred name, age or grade, school, home language and language of learning, and the work you upload — photographs or scans of tests, worksheets, exam pages and workbook pages, including their handwriting.
Automatically: the technical information any website receives — IP address, browser and device type — and, where you have submitted a form, a record of the consent you gave, when, and under which version of this policy.
Why we collect it
To produce, quality-check, sign off and deliver the report or pack you bought; to answer your questions about it; and to meet our own legal and accounting obligations. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for anyone else's marketing, and we do not use your child's work to train any general-purpose AI model.
Where it is kept
In South Africa. Our database and file storage are hosted in Amazon Web Services' Cape Town region (af-south-1), and our website runs from the same region. This is a deliberate choice: the alternative platforms commonly used for this kind of service have no African region, and this system holds children's personal information.
Where a service outside South Africa is genuinely necessary, your child is identified to it only by a meaningless reference code. The link between that code and your child's real identity never leaves the country.
Who else sees it
Only the registered teacher preparing and signing your report, and the service providers we need in order to operate: our hosting and storage provider, our payment processor, and our email provider. Each is bound to use the information only to provide that service to us.
Our previous website named its sub-processors as “Wix, Jotform”, payment processors and email providers. Wix and Jotform are being retired as this new site replaces them.
How long we keep itExisting wording
Reports and account records are retained for up to 12 months after delivery, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
The raw evidence you upload — the photographs of your child's work — is deleted automatically 90 days after we receive it. That deletion is run by a scheduled job, not by a promise in a policy.
Your rights
You may ask us what we hold about you or your child, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, withdraw a consent you previously gave, or object to a particular use. Email info@learnerlens.co and we will respond within the periods POPIA requires. Withdrawing consent does not undo work already completed, and we may need to keep limited records to meet tax and accounting obligations.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
